Today, on Women Pharmacist Day, we celebrate the significant gains that women have made in pursuing careers in pharmacy. Not only that, we honor women pharmacists who exemplify leadership, dedication, and work-life balance. Ashley Gavin, Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager at Bouvier Pharmacy in Marlborough, MA encompasses all of these traits. Her pharmacy peers recognize her dedication to the team, the patients they serve, as well as her family. They spoke with us about the contributions Ashley has made to the pharmacy since she joined the team 7 years ago. Here is what they had to say.
She has helped update a 120 year old pharmacy with modern ideas and integrating new technology and software to improve efficiency and stay competitive in an industry that is heavily monopolized by corporations.
Ashley leads a group of very strong women including 2 pharmacists and multiple technicians. She is welcoming of ideas and
improvements and everyone has a voice. We all feel very empowered by her.
From counseling, to immunizations, to meeting with nursing facilities and prescribers, she has instituted procedures that help patients
get what they need when they need it. Under her guidance, the facilities and prescribers that we partner with have agreed to best
practices to ensure our patients are compliant with their medications.
Since Ashley has started working here, she has gotten married, had a baby (and another on the way!) and she has been an amazing
example that women can succeed in their career while starting a family. At no point did her dedication to her work waver as her life
went through some major changes. She is a great pharmacist, wife and mother.
Ashley’s work with Medicine-On-Time is extensive, but her involvement in creating deadlines for each aspect of the process (billing,
filling, checking and delivery) has been paramount to a smooth workflow that ensures our patients are never without their necessary medications.
I truly love being a pharmacist, and being a pharmacist at an independent where our ideas are heard and implemented. The beginning of my career was spent working for one of the chains, and I can honestly say that I have never looked back.
I am so fortunate to be a part of a company that has lasted (and thrived) for 120 years.
